The browser based system allows you to use any general purpose code scanning app or even 2d hardware barcode scanners that are capable of opening a website. For the browser based scanning to work, the barcode content needs to contain the Scan URL, this URL points to a website where you can check the validity of the pass and redeem, reactivate or update it.
ℹ️Tip: You can use the browser based verification system for "click to redeem" redemption. You can put the scan URL (see predefined placeholders) on the back of the pass and the cashier can click on this link, enter the pin and redeem the pass. Please note however that this redemption method has weak security as the user's device can't be trusted.
How to configure browser based scanning
- Edit your Template
- Select the barcode in the pass designer
- On the right in the barcode pannel:
- Select Data: Scan URL
- Disable Sign Barcode
Authorization
For authorization a PIN needs to be entered to change the pass. Go to the Verification Section in your account to find your default PIN or create additional browser based scanner.
If your code scanning app or 2d hardware barcode does use a browser that clears its cookies after every scan, you will need to re-enter this PIN every time. If you can you should prefer Pass Verifier to a general purpose scanning app and the direct integration into the Point of Sale in case of a 2d hardware scanner.
